All Of Us

From despair and disconnection to hope and meaningful action.
Therapeutic writing for the climate emergency.

A three part programme online and in community.

I love the generative cycle of awareness, acknowledgement and action in therapeutic work. It’s when we acknowledge and connect, most especially when we are soundly accompanied, that we can move forward with purposeful action and meaningful change.
Blocked grief and anxiety can compromise our capacity to take such effective action - for ourselves, for each other, for this beautiful planet we call home.

I have created this three part course because climate anxiety, grief and distress are some of the great unspoken truths of our times. We scan the news, it intrudes now and again like a distant siren, and we pay lip service to in our conversations. To varying degrees we are aware on a cognitive or intellectual level, yet we are largely disconnected from the felt consequences in our bodies and in the spaces between us. Largely protective I think, of course it is. We are tasked to meditate on our very survival - the arising feelings are complex and frightening, and so we distance ourselves on loop.

The truth is that when we come to sit with our feelings, we can settle the nervous system, we can learn and adapt, we can source true hope, and we can become collaborative agents of meaningful, impactful change.
Therapeutic writing offers rich resource. With grounding, regulatory practices combined with deeply considered writing prompts and exercises, I accompany you on a journey from despair and disconnection to earthed hope and embodied action. You will feel resourced and accompanied as you write in privacy, while also in community with other hearts.

Active Hope, the power of imagination, exploring agency and activism.
I am interested in the ways we are shaped by family, culture and environments, and I am deeply curious about how we develop meaning in our lives. We each have a unique individual lens on the world to include our relationship with ourselves and others. In therapy we share a growing understanding of how this self awareness both helps and hinders us.

I am highly experienced in the therapeutic support of others, and you are highly experienced in your own life. In that way, you are the expert you seek, and we collaborate to create a unique therapeutic relationship that supports you in your growth and exploration.

I am steadfast in warmly welcoming people of all identities, outlooks, and orientations, with long experience of working with those who live with the trauma of marginalisation and exclusion. I recognise my part in creating an anti-racist, feminist, gender-inclusive world, and continue to learn and unlearn in these areas through reading, courses, and conversation. I promote and encourage personal and collective growth, and am deeply respectful of the challenges that may bring, whilst being equally committed to my own personal and professional development.

I have been fortunate enough to work in the helping professions for more than 20 years, 14 of those as a practicing counsellor and psychotherapist. My experience spans varied roles in the mental health and social justice sectors, supporting individuals, groups and families experiencing homelessness, stigma, unemployment, postnatal depression, and sexual trauma. I bring the strong values and passion from this sector to my work, and I continue my charitable and community commitments through my work with Groundswell Scotland, a surf therapy organisation based in East Lothian.

My approach to therapy is underpinned by my love of nature, by my commitment to social and climate justice, and by my belief in the collaborative nature of growth and healing. Over the years I have remained true to my belief that it’s the relationship that heals. I bring warmth, honesty and sensitive curiosity to my work so that you come to trust in being wholly accepted, just as you are.
